My husband and I had a wonderful time in Virginia last weekend visiting Marissa and her husband Todd.

We spent the first day at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. 

We also visited the Darden campus at the University of Virginia where Marissa's husband is going to school. 

One of the best parts of Virginia are the trees! We went on a hike in Shenandoah. It was beautiful.  

I had an amazing time. Marissa and I had so much fun talking about design and the ups and downs of running our own businesses.

me and my brother in D.C. 

Today I am flying out to Virginia to visit one of my best friends, Marissa from Roost. I am so excited to see her! I'm also excited to visit Virginia. I grew up in Virginia from ages 4 to 12 and I haven't been back to visit for so long.

0 Sidney by the Sea, Victoria

My husband and I spent Thursday and part of Friday visiting Sidney-by-the-Sea in Victoria on the Vancouver Islands of Canada. It was beautiful. I wish we could have stayed longer. 

My husband is a pilot and every now and then I'll try and go out with him on one of his overnights. This one in Victoria is too good to miss. 

The hotel was beautiful. 

We stayed at the Sidney Pier Hotel and Spa. It's right next to the water and down the street are great shops and restaurants. 

One of the best parts of this hotel is the hotel dog Dave. He lives at the hotel and you can take him on walks whenever you want. 

My husband and I are huge dog lovers so this was really fun for us. 

We also took a walk along the pier. The view was breathtaking. 

For dinner that night we ate Fish and Chips at Fish on 5th. 

After that we spent some time at the local Farmers Market. 

There were tons of people shopping, playing music in the street and visiting with each other. 

This was my first time to Canada and I hope it's not my last. We had such a great time. The people were so lovely and the landscape is incredible!

This week and part of next week I'll be on a road trip with my family. We will all be getting into a big motor home and traveling out to Iowa to pick up my brother from his mission.

I had the best time ever visiting Bryn this week. 

Her home is incredible. I know she hasn't finished it yet but that is one of the reasons I love it so much. Each piece in her home is very deliberate and she is taking her time with decorating it.

I sat at this table with Bryn and her husband the night that I got there. Her neighborhood is really lovely and we had a great view of her backyard from her kitchen.

She took me on a tour of her whole home and showed me all of the things she is planning to do. Believe me guys, it's going to be good!!

I got to stay in this beautiful guest room. I loved it. 

One of my favorite rooms in her home is her office. It's so beautiful. On Tues. night we poured over fabrics and oohed and ahhed over our favorites. Looking at fabrics is one of my very favorite things to do and it's especially fun when someone gets excited about them with me!

Speaking of getting excited about design on Wednesday Bryn and I headed out to High Point Market. 

I mostly went to Market for the experience. I think it's very important to expose yourself to really really good design and that is what market is all about! Room after room of stunning furniture, fabrics, accessories, lighting and art! 

That night we met up with Traci and Emily for dinner. We chatted like we were old friends. It's amazing when you find people who truly understand you and get what you are going through. We talked about the joys of designing and blogging and we gave each other advice and support. It was wonderful.

I truly had the best time. Bryn is so gracious and so kind in "real-life". I can't wait to go see her again!

Today I am getting on an airplane and flying out to North Carolina to visit my buddy Bryn. I can't wait! We'll be hitting up High Point Market on Thursday.
