Blog Tour

By Unknown | At 7:29 AM | Label : , | 0 Comments
Today I'm taking part in the Blog Tour you have probably seen going on in blogland. Thanks to Shelley from Crazy Wonderful for inviting me!

Now to answer a few questions!

How does my style differ from others in my genre?
There are truly so many talented designers out there. It's hard to say that any of us are better than each other but we are all unique in our design style.  I think you could give all of us the same pieces to put in a room and we'd probably all style and design the room differently! One of things I love most about putting a room together is trying to incorporate a classic feel while infusing lots of fun and colorful elements. I like spaces that feel lively but also sophisticated.

What am I working on?
My business partner Erin and I are working on lots of great projects! I think the best thing we're doing right now is working on sprucing up our own homes. Stay tuned for some great house tours! We've each gone through a transition in the feel that we want our homes to have so we've been sprucing up different areas. I've been putting the finishing touches on a new living room design, an office reveal, sprucing up the kitchen and adding some new elements to the master bedroom. I can't wait to share the spaces with you!

Why do I write/create what I do?
It's hard for me to explain sometimes to people how much I love what I do.  I feel incredibly blessed to be able to do what I do. I do what I do because I can't imagine life without it. I feel like every home, room and space has great potential for beauty. It doesn't always take millions of dollars and an incredible eye to make a room special. Sometimes it just takes a little love, a little attention and a few changes to bring out the beauty of a space. I love being able to do that for people.  I feel so lucky.

Now for the blogger I am sending the tour on to!

I'm passing the torch to one of my longtime blogging buddies Autumn from Design Dump. She continues to bring great inspiration to blogland with her room reveals and easy DIY Projects!

Isn't she amazing! Be sure to check out Design Dump next Monday for a continuation of the tour!

DIY Black and White Chevron Pillow

By Unknown | At 4:00 AM | Label : , | 0 Comments

Today we have a fun art tutorial from my contributor, Brittany! She is constantly coming up with great projects on her blog, brittanyMakes. I love a good pillow and especially a bold black and white one! This DIY has me swooning for sure!

Raise your hand if you have a stash of the oh so classic black and white striped fabric. Who doesn't, right? Most times I'm at a loss on what to do with fabric remnants after I've finished a project. Maybe it's the hoarder in me, but I seriously hate tossing perfectly good materials - I'll think of something to do with them! And guess what? I'b here to share another pillow design! There are so many ways you can manipulate striped fabric and today I'm going to show you how to turn stripes into a chevron pattern. Let's go! Here's what you need:
  • 1/2 yard striped fabric
  • Kraft paper for template
  • Angle square
  • Ruler
  • Chalk
  • Piping (optional) - I used neon velvet ribbon!

First thing you want to do is measure and cut your pillow template. I wanted to make a 20" pillow, so I cut out a template measuring 20"x20". Fold this in half diagonally. Lay the 90-degree edge of your angle square along the edge of a stripe on the front of your fabric. Then, take your ruler and place it at the 45-degree mark. I placed my folded template underneath my ruler as an additional guide (you actually probably don't even need the template if you have an L-shaped ruler, now that I think about it). Using your chalk measure 20" up for the first side of your pillow cover. Repeat this process for the second side, although you need to flip your angle square to the opposite 90-degree edge. Make sense?

Next, railroad both sides together. It is SUPER important to make sure the stripes align from top to bottom. I like to hold the fabric up to the light to make sure they align, then use like a million pins to make sure the fabric doesn't move when I sew it together. Now, the next step is completely optional. I wanted to add some flair to my pillow by turning some neon velvet ribbon into piping. My suggested method for doing this is to sew the piping to the front of the pillow cover first, then sew the back side on top of it. I recommend going very slowly when sewing the ribbon/piping. You can choose to add a zipper or do an envelope closure for the back side. This is a great zipper tutorial, and this is a straight forward envelope pillow tutorial.  It looks pretty fantastic, right?? I'm totally guilty for making way too many pillows, but in my defense they're just so easy to make and can transform a space in a hot minute! Toss this bad boy on your bed and bam! Instant upgrade. Not to mention your friends and fam will oogle over your pillow and wonder where they can buy this oversized chevron printed fabric :P

Feature Friday: Bellissimo and Bella

By Unknown | At 4:00 AM | Label : , , , | 0 Comments

Today I am featuring the home tour of Maggie from the blog Bellissimo and Bella! Here is what she says she loves most about her home:

"When my husband and I first looked at this house, I was sold immediately. I could see past the dated interiors and weird half-walls, and zeroed in on the open floor plan, high ceilings, and incredible natural light coming through the windows. We did a few renovations in the beginning, but our major changes involved refinishing the hardwood floors and a thorough paint job.  While making it a home, I’ve had a ball collecting pieces over the years, rummaging through grandma's attic, scouring antique stores, and incorporating my obsession with textiles, linens, and fabrics. It's no secret, I'm a pillow junkie! And I love taking family cast-offs and bringing them back to life. Luckily, no one has really fought me over anything. Yet! Our home is a combination of things that makes it "ours". I enjoy adding things here and there....a quirky objet de art, a funny plant, or a different lamp. Like my taste, my home is constantly evolving. Hope you enjoy our home tour! And thank you Kirsten for letting me be a part of your Feature Friday series! I am honored!”

Enjoy!
